Ross Rizzo, Patriarch and President of Bernardo Winery and the Rizzo family passed away on January 15th 2008 suddenly and without warning. The winery has a sense of void and loss, as do so many people. He was a great man.

The second generation owner of a longstanding San Diego business founded in 1889, the Bernardo Winery and the Patriarch of the Rizzo Family, a father figure, brother and generous friend to so many.

In his legacy, it is our job here at the Bernardo Winery to continue what he worked so long and hard to build. In my father’s last years, he oversaw so many positive things happen at the winery; the Live Jazz on the Patio, the addition of the Special Events Department, some good wine making, and of course the addition of so many great new shops and partners in making this winery stand out from the rest. His visions and forethought will materialize in every project we undertake, all for the greater good of the winery and its amazing guests and patrons.
He will be missed in so many ways, by so many. We will try our hardest to keep his dreams alive and well.

Mission Statement:
To uphold the tradition of being an oasis of a bygone era encompassing all the elements including antique winemaking festive gathers and relaxing rendezvous under olive trees, while still embracing modern business practices. In a sense, Bernardo Winery is a fine Meritage, a blend of many factors to create the optimum experience.
