BERNARDO WINERY WINE LIST

FOUNDED IN 1889, and family owned and operated by the Rizzo Family since 1927, Bernardo Winery is one of the oldest continuously operating wineries in California. The winery is located 25 miles north of Downtown San Diego and built on what was once the La Cañada de San Bernardo Spanish Land Grant. Surviving prohibition by producing sacramental wine, Bernardo Winery continues its tradition of making approachable wines produced exclusively from San Diego County wine grapes.

DESSERT

From its founding until the 1970s, the winery primarily produced fortified wines, which were later overshadowed by the rise of fine table wines. San Diego County, with similarities to the Douro Valley, was a hub for fortified styles like Muscatel, Cream Sherry, and Port-style wines. Brandy is added early in the fermentation to boost alcohol and preserve sweetness.

“It’s 1960, at the end of a long dirt road in North County San Diego likes a Winery where a man with rough hands and a soft heart is handcrafting a wine like no other. To him, wine is not just a craft, it’s about friends and family. With Ross Rizzo’s passing in 2008, this 50-year aged Tawny Port is a fine tribute to him and three generations of Rizzo Family winemakers.”  
Enjoy a piece of Old California Wine History with this 50-year Port grown, fortified and aged here at Bernardo Winery. A blend of the 1952 and 1962 Ports, this wine is more specifically made in the Anjelica style. Bottled in 2008 in honor of Ross Rizzo Sr.
