In almost all of my talks here at BW, I tend to downplay the potential of Bordeaux varietals in San Diego County, mostly due to our warm terroir. My skepticism is largely rooted in how poorly Cabernet Sauvignon tends to perform here — perhaps unfairly casting doubt on the other Bordeaux grapes by association. But this bottle is a great example of how a balanced, structured wine can emerge from fruit not traditionally suited to our warm climate. If you’re enjoying it, feel free to give us all the grief we deserve for bashing its components.
